Democracy Day: Clarion Call to Nigerians

Let me start first, by saying Happy Democracy Day to myself and all Nigerians home and in diaspora. Though there are reservations about if this year democracy day is worth celebrating but every meaning Nigerians will know that since June 23, 1993, the notion of democracy in our Father's land has been reduced to only formality on papers which we are celebrating over the years so there's not so much difference at this day.

Though it is my utmost desire to plead with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the State Governments and every concerned Government Agencies and Parastatals most notably the House of Assembly and the Senate to look into our matters more circumspectly especially in the areas of Education, Power, Security, Transportation (roads) and Unemployment because to a reasonable extent if all this doesn't fall in pleasant places with us in this Country, we're still in the mirage of democracy.

But I thought it wise to change the scope of my writing to we the Common Nigerians as I believe only us understand ourselves and know exactly where the shoe pinches us. At least, even in a democratic government of Nigeria, if you want to get the government listen to you, you've got to be a person who can steer up trouble or be of nobility, influence and affluence, the only language of the common man our government understands is that of massive protest and nationwide strike and you can't even do that as an individual or else you'll have yourself to blame because you won't be heard.

So this Clarion Call is to the leaders of tomorrow, I mean those of us who are in ages 20s- above. Whether we like it or not, the future of this country lies on our hands and we must be fully equipped spiritually, mentally, pyschologically, philosophically, sociologically, emotionally, academically, experientially, economically, financially and logically for the task ahead.

Let no one cajole us, it isn't time for the youth yet, the time we've and we're currently is the time for we youths to learn at the feet of meaningful elders the rule of law, the state of nation, the art and act of leadership, the tenets of truth, the arrow of Justice and the equanimity of righteousness.

No doubt, our time is fast approaching when the reins of governance of this Country shall be in our hands, those who're holding the baton of powers now would out of no choice pass it over but are we preparing for that time?

Running the affairs of a Country is a collective effort as no man is indispensable and also no man is entirely irrelevant to the scheme of things. No matter what you do or who you're, you can contribute your quota to the betterment of this Country without parading the game of public politics.

If you can help a little child feed, you might be reducing the number of burglars in your community hence ensuring peace and security of your neighborhood and before you know it, the crime rate is reducing in the country.

It is believed, that the higher you go, the more difficult it is to implement your goodwill as a public office holder because there are stakeholders who will vet your projects and see if they are good enough to their own taste, but if you're passionate about making a landmark positive change in this country, it is expedient to surround yourself with people of like minds.

Politics and governance are  inseparable identical twins, you can't tredge the path of one and leave the other behind but there are genuine values we all can inculcate to catapult us as a change agent, values of integrity, trustworthiness, uprightness, good virtue, love, kindness, long suffering and others.

As youths we need wisdom, knowledge and understanding of God to redirect the course of this Country and trailblaze another path where every citizen is entitled to an egalitarian community. Enough of the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer, enough of government policies always at the side of the nobles and detriment of the masses. Enough of government facilities been sub-standards and the private ones not been accessible because of exhorbitant charges whereas the poor and middle class pay more in taxes than the said rich ones. Let what is good for the goose be good for the gander.

I believe Nigeria is going to be great because I'm a Nigerian and I have the seed of greatness which is Jesus Christ in me. So no matter how deplorable the state of nation is, my mantra remains IT CAN ONLY BE BETTER.

I'll pray for the good of this country, I'll contribute my quota to her greatness, I'll partner with progressives to uphold the rule of law in this country, I'll do my best in words and actions and wait probably my time will come to represent the interests of the common citizens. What about you?

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!
God bless the 33 States of Nigeria and the FCT!!!
God bless the 774 Local Government Councils and the LCDAs!!!
God bless Me and You!!!
